PENTICTON: A Place People Live Year-Round

Posted by Press No Comment yet

Whether you’re a snow lover, a sun worshipper or anything in between, Penticton has something for you! With its ideal climate and stunning backdrop, the South-central Okanagan town is a great place to visit year round. Derived from the Interior Salish work snpintktn, that’s just what Penticton means: “a place people live year-round.”

From festivals and great restaurants to outdoor activities, Penticton has something for everyone, no matter what time of the year it is. Here are a few of our favourite year round Penticton activities!

With the onset of Spring comes the opening of Penticton’s famous Farmer’s Market. Every Saturday from May until October, head down to the 100 block of Main St in the heart of downtown Penticton, where you can find offerings from local farmers, artists, bakers, crafters and prepared food vendors.

If you worked up a bit of a thirst perusing the stalls of Penticton’s Farmer’s Market, visit Old Order Distilling Co. at 270 Martin Street, where, on Saturdays at 1:00 and 3:00pm, you can take a free distillery tour. Busy on Saturdays? Visit their website to book your tour, and don’t forget to download the GetintheLoop app, where members receive special offers at Old Order.

In the hot summer months, visitors and locals alike are drawn to Penticton’s River Channel to cool off. Grab a floatie (or you can rent one there for $10) and make your way to the north end of Penticton at 215 Riverside Drive for a relaxing afternoon. The best time of day to go is between 1:00pm and 6:00pm when the sun is the warmest. If you want to float the whole length of River Channel, you could leave a vehicle at the end of the channel at Skaha Lake, but parking is quite limited. Don’t feel like investing three or four hours to float? Get out at the midway point, where you can grab a bite at HounDogs Reztaurant and even get a bus back to the launch site!

Before heading to the beach or the channel, make sure to stop in at Something Pretty Boutique at 10 Front Street where you can pick up the latest summer attire or a tote to carry your towels and sunscreen. Can’t quite wait until summer? They’re open all year around with fashions fitting every season! Be sure to check out the GetintheLoop app for special offers exclusive to GetintheLoop members like 25% Off silver jeans, or 15% Off all Hunter Boots!
