Q: WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
A: I was born in Italy, but grew up in northern Germany. After high school I started traveling and studying– a math and a CS degree, four different Universities and several jobs later I was finally ready for a bit more steadiness in my life. Canada was the natural choice after having fallen in love with the country whilst traveling it in 2010.
Q: RECENT MILESTONES?
A: Until the end of 2013 I worked for a game startup in Seattle for two years, mostly doing backend and creating proprietary in-house graphics software. Then the beginning of 2014 year, I worked with a startup spin off in Germany, writing indexing software for exploded drawings before joining GITL.
Q: WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?
A: I learned swimming when I was three, started athletics shortly after and have been passionate about (outdoor) sports ever since.
Q: WHY DID YOU JOIN GETINTHELOOP?
A: I have to admit that when I first heard about GITL, I was a bit skeptical. There are many startups out there and many of them fail. However it became quickly clear that GITL had everything to take it big: A great idea and someone who is dedicated (or stupid?) enough to never give up. But besides this being a logical decision it was also an emotional one. I was fascinated by the team spirit and motivation the team has. With every work you take on as a programmer you have to fall in love at least a little bit to make it outstanding – I did that.
Q: HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED?
A: I just am always full of energy and motivated to create and learn things. The question I ask is rather: How do I channel the energy and keep focused? That is a question that I always carefully consider before taking on a new job. What will I be doing there? How is the environment, my co-workers? When it comes down to it, what really motivates me is helping other people! If I can create something that will help people, I’m happy, and luckily that applies to almost all programming tasks. So whenever I have trouble finding motivation I ask myself: How is this benefitting people? How will it be used? And the answer almost always makes me walk right to my workstation. I’m also a perfectionist, so at times it is hard to “let go” and focus on the next thing, that’s something I’m still struggling with today. I found that planning ahead and questioning importance “of the last pieces” really helps me.
Q: FAVOURITE AUTHOR?
A: Sir Terry Pratchett
Q: FAVOURITE FOOD?
A: Have to go with something simple here. Maybe Quinoa with mixed veggies? Or chicken, star noodle soup? Or Lasagne? Ok, I can’t decide, haha.
