Back To School Shopping At Hillside Shopping Centre

September 2nd, 2016 Posted by blog, Vancouver Island No Comment yet

Back. To. School. If you’re anything like me, these words both make you nervous and excite you. Nervous in the unknown, in the uncertainty that comes with a brand school year. Who will you meet? How will classes go? Where will you shop? These are big questions that need answering.

On the other hand, back to school truly is exciting. You will meet new people, do new things, and explore new areas of town. This is the time of our lives to live life to the fullest. If I could offer any advice as a recent university graduate, it would be to take chances. It may be a new school club that peaks your interest, an opportunity to work on an exciting project, or a new road trip destination. I’ve learned that taking chances always leads to new experiences. It is these experiences that shape who we are as a person, and lead us down exciting new paths.

With all this being said, most students have the same limitation: a student budget. The infamous student budget. How do you overcome this significant obstacle, in order to take advantage of everything university has to offer? Read on, young one, read on!

In Victoria, there are many options and areas to shop for the essentials. Out of all the shopping centres and storefronts, there is one that stands out for YOU, the cash-strapped university student: Hillside Centre. Located just a short five minute drive from both the University of Victoria and Camosun College, Hillside Centre is your one-stop-shop for everything a student needs. And it gets better: Hillside Centre is a proud partner of GetintheLoop! This means you can easily save cash on everything from bedding to screen protectors. Get down to Hillside Centre today to start saving.

At this point, you may be saying, “Now, surely it can’t get any better. An amazing shopping centre with stand-out offers, only 5 minutes away?”

Once again, it gets better. Check out the following five vendors with amazing offers for students to get you started!

Website | Facebook
Start off at this well-known clothing store for all your back-to-school jean needs. Bootlegger was founded in 1971 in Vancouver as the “General Paint Company” and hasn’t looked back since. As one of the most trusted and recognized brands in Canada, they represent affordable, practical fashion. Stop in at Bootlegger today for that perfect pair of stylish jeans to wow your new classmates!

Check out Bootlegger’s current offers in Hillside Centre by using the GetintheLoop app, find them HERE.

Everyone loves sushi. It’s quick, different, and delicious. Hiro Japan Xpress is an environmentally friendly, boutique restaurant that originated in Vancouver. Their objective is to provide fresh, healthy, and ethnic food to the community at every location. Serving a wide range of customers including students, Hiro Japan Xpress is a must-stop when checking out all the great offers in Hillside Centre.

Who doesn’t enjoy a beautiful California Roll with miso soup? Well, right now on GetintheLoop you can get it for only $5! Check out all of Hiro Japan’s current offers HERE.

Follow up your sushi with a delicious smoothie from Orange Julius. This company truly is an example of passionate entrepreneurship. It all goes back to 1926, when a man named Julius started an orange juice stand. His friend didn’t like orange juice because it was too acidic, and blended the juice with a few choice ingredients. People loved it and were soon shouting, “Give me an orange, Julius!” And so, Orange Julius was born.

Right now at Orange Julius in Hillside Centre, buy one drink or smoothie and get a second for free! You can’t beat that. Check out Orange Julius’s offers HERE!

As a student, you’re on your phone a lot. Whether it is checking e-mail or figuring out the evening’s activities, your phone connects your life. When you use something so often, it’s bound to be dropped at some point. Don’t take a chance when that drop happens; get a phone case and screen protector at Wrapprz.

GetintheLoop is featuring $15 off any tempered glass screen protector. Check out the rest of their great offers HERE.

In my opinion, dollar stores are very underrated – especially for students on a budget. After picking up your new phone case, make one last stop at Only Deals Dollar Store. You’ll find a wide array of kitchen, yard, BBQ, and seasonal supplies, to go with everyday essentials such as cards and refreshments. Make your first stop Only Deals when looking to save money furnishing your new apartment.

Horror Escape

The best escape room experience in BC? Horror Escape. An experience like no other. Interactive, fun and challenging, you have 45 minutes to work together in a detailed set, finding hidden clues and solving puzzles to progress through the sets leading to your escape.

This is, hands-down, the best escape room experience in Victoria. I’m not a horror fan generally, but there are no jump-scares and although the themes are mature (we have done two rooms so far – Crimson Manor and The Cellar) the puzzles were fantastic. I would not hesitate to recommend this for families with teens or pre-teens, couples and friends looking for a fun adventure. We’ll be back to tackle the Doll Master soon!” – Happy Customer
Open from 3:00PM – 11:00PM, solve a horror or mystery based narrative in an immersive setting, with dim lighting and dark soundtracks. Your experience is based around working together and solving puzzles to escape. You haven’t experienced Victoria, until you’ve experienced the #1 escape room, Horror Escape.“I had my first escape room experience tonight and it was just that – an experience! From the first moment we walked into the foyer, the guy who worked there tonight really set the mood and all the hints he gave us were all story driven and he made it all seem real! The lighting, the sound, the puzzles, the clues, the room was all perfect! I had such a great time and I can’t wait to go back!

Whether you’re an out of town visitor or a born and raised Victorian, there is one thing that you must do and that is to get out on the water and take a whale watching tour. We recommend visiting out friends at Orca Spirit when you’re ready to make the plunge and have a life changing experience!

There is nothing like seeing an orca surface, hearing it take a breath with Mt. Baker and the beautiful city of Victoria in the background. See here a member of a Transient orca family that came from the West. – Mother Langara and two son’s Siwash & Bubba.

Whether you’re looking to get out for a nice evening stroll, or looking to celebrate an anniversary, the Inner harbor won’t let you down.

With a long heritage history this cultural destination holds recreational vessels and small cruise ships (Be sure to take a 45-minute harbour tour by boat to get the full experience). During the summer months, the harbour is the focus of festivals, shows and music. The harbour also serves whale watching and ecotourism businesses, float planes, an International Ferry terminal.

Wandering along the harbour you’ll be able to hang out at the Fisherman’s Wharf that is populated largely by float homes, feed the seals, take a ride on horse and buggy, grab a bite at one of the many favourite local spots along the way and view the beautiful architectural buildings – Victoria was voted one of the Top 10 cities in North America by readers of Travel + Lesirure magazine in 2015 find out why!

Fishing Charters

Find yourself saying “If I could do only one thing it would be go fishing?” Given it’s geographic location, Victoria and Vancouver Island in general has become world renowned for its Salmon Fishing. With tourists coming from all ends of the earth to experience Vancouver Island fishing, experiencing the beauty of the West Coast and bringing your desire to catch the big one is a must!

A scenic 45 minute drive from Victoria brings you to the Sooke area where we highly recommend finding Gotcha Salmon Charters! In the spring and summer months, large Chinook salmon (15-50 lbs) are caught in the area. Joining them, the Coho, Sockeye, Pink, and Chum salmon follow. October is an excellent time fish for large Coho salmon 10-18 Lbs. In the winter months fishing can be excellent as well with smaller feeder Chinook salmon 4-12 Lbs caught just minutes from the dock.

The water in the Sooke area is generally calm, under a 2 Ft chop unless it is windy. There is no ground swell like in the open ocean! Wildlife is abundant in the area and during your fishing trip you may see bald eagles, sea gulls, sea otters, harbour seals, sea lions, and possibly even Killer Whales!

The owner and operator John Chau takes pride in creating a one in a lifetime experience and will be your fishing guide for the trip! Born and raised in Victoria he has been fishing the Sooke area for 30 years so his knowledge of the area and experience will ensure that you have a memorable journey! Don’t miss out if you are interested to get out on the waters, give our friends at Gotcha Salmon Charters a visit!

Major retailers and commercial providers, such as Hillside Centre BentallKennedy, are leveraging mobile marketing and its many benefits this holiday season.

It’s no secret that consumers are constantly engaged with their smartphones. Look around at any restaurant, down any street, or in a store – everyone is immersed in personalized content on their phone. Consumers are continually trending towards using their mobile devices as part of their every day decision-making.

One major shopping centre in Victoria, BC, Hillside Centre, has decided to jump right in and take advantage of this mobile engagement. “The statistics of mobile use are astounding! We knew it was time to innovate our marketing efforts and our retailers are loving it!” Michele Paget, Marketing Director Hillside Centre

IMG_2495The statistics Michele is talking about are the growing numbers around mobile use and the effectiveness for marketers to now reach individual consumers where they are at, and at the point of decision-making. The average consumer checks their phones 155 times a day and 77% of local purchases are searched on a smartphone first. It’s no surprise that national giants like Sears, Kernels, Subway, Edo Japan, Paris Jewellers, as well as unique locally owned businesses are excited about the growth of mobile and have moved to offering exclusive savings to Vancouver Island shoppers through GetintheLoop.

Our Partnership between Hillside Centre and GetintheLoop provides all retailers with the opportunity to reach consumer phones and promote offers instantly to tens of thousands of interested individuals on Vancouver Island and across B.C. Offers promoted from vendors are sorted by industry on the app and website under their respective categories such as ‘Shopping’, ‘Food & Drink’ or in the ‘Hillside Centre Loop’. The promotions are sent to Loop Members who have selected to receive app or email notifications from these specific categories and are available to redeem from the mobile website or app without pre-purchasing or printing coupons.

Partnered with Bell Media’s CFAX and KOOL FM, GetintheLoop is bringing the Hillside Centre Loop to Vancouver Island and have already seen great success with the adoption from well respected local businesses.

“We’re always looking for ways to consistently grow foot traffic for our retailers and of course increase incremental spending from shoppers. GetintheLoop allows us to attract new customers to the mall as well as help us better understand who shops at Hillside so we can continue to serve them better in the future” – Michele Pagettable-top

Over the past 18 months GetintheLoop has expanded into 9 cities and now represent hundreds of the top brands in Canada and will be expanding into 18 new markets in 2016. The Hillside Centre BentallKennedy partnership with GetintheLoop is exciting because they have millions of consumers visit annually and GetintheLoop is a channel for them to communicate with their local community more often; GetintheLoop changes the way retailers and Hillside are able to interact with their local shoppers and we are excited to be a part of that.

Consumer preference will continue to trend towards mobile devices, we see an exponential growth curve coming up in mobile marketing. At GetintheLoop we aim to be the best way for cool companies to get in touch with consumers and offer them incentives to ACT NOW at the same time.

You can expect to see more branded Mall Loops added very soon!
