Partner Spotlight: Move & Flow

Partner Spotlights are our way to shine a light on some of our amazing local partners across the country and give them a platform to tell their unique story. Sara Green Eddy, the owner of Move & Flow – Dance Fitness & Yoga, wants to share hers!

Tell us about your business:

Move & Flow is a locally-owned group fitness studio where everyone is truly welcome.  We specialize in: (1) Fun-filled dance-based cardio combined with strength training and stretching (2) Easy-to-follow alignment-based yoga with modifications offered to for all levels and experience (3) Full-body barre workouts set to great playlists for every fitness level. Our community is mostly, but not limited to, women and we are proud to attract all ages and fitness levels.  We are a fun-loving group of people enjoying genuine friendship while working together to achieve our health and wellness goals.

What is the one thing you would like people to know about your business?

It seems like most people who don’t come try us out are either worried that the classes will be too hard or too easy. Everyone works at their own level, so it’s as hard or easy as you make it. If you’re afraid you won’t fit in, don’t be. We won’t make you feel bad about yourself or your body. It’s not competitive and it’s really actually fun. People tell me all the time it’s the first workout where they are upset if they can’t make it to class.

What made you want to get into business here?

I moved from LA to Kelowna in 2015 with my husband and new baby. Before becoming a mom, my life was a little bit different. My passion was commuting all over the city teaching alignment-based yoga, using down-to-earth language that beginners and more experienced yogis can understand. I also loved teaching fun barre classes with great playlists and teaching the most amazing dance fitness workout I’ve ever done, Jazzercise. When I arrived in my new home, I started searching for places to teach. I found my Jazzercise community first but soon discovered the local owner was planning to close the location where I was teaching. I decided that if I wanted to keep teaching, it was time to step up to the plate. Soon I missed teaching yoga and barre and decided the best way to share my unique style of these classes, was to create my own space for those as well. I drew up a logo and we’ve been having a blast ever since.

What’s your favourite part about owning or managing the business?

Owning my own studio has been such a dream of mine for a long time but it’s not always easy. What makes it all worthwhile for me is seeing how much the classes help our students stay happy and healthy, and selfishly, how much they help me. There’s no better motivation to workout than having an awesome group of people waiting for me to show up and teach. My community helps keep me (at least somewhat) sane and healthy.

What local business would you like to see on GetintheLoop?

There are so many great small businesses in Kelowna but I’d have to say Tonics Pub and Grill. They’re a few short blocks from us and we love having the occasional girls-night-out after class there. We all have a drink and share some nachos and laughs. It’s a fun casual spot where they never turn us away in our sweaty workout gear. GetInTheLoop could definitely use more offers on nachos.

Is there a community cause or event that you support that you would like to give a shoutout to?

We love supporting local causes and are always happy to pitch in for silent auctions and raffles. Last year we did a charity yoga class for Mamas for Mamas, and this year we did a special fundraiser class for Dress for Success Kelowna. We are lucky to have so many charities making a huge difference in our community.

When you’re not working/running your business what is your favourite thing to do?

I’m insanely lucky that so much of my day-to-day job is dancing, teaching, and chatting with awesome people. When I’m not doing that, I’m spending time enjoying the beautiful Kelowna sunshine with my two free-spirited kids and husband.

At GetintheLoop, we love our partners and love being able to share their local stories. Check out Move & Flow offers here.
