Looking to mix up your regular weekend routine and try out some new restaurants in Edmonton? We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite (and unique) places to go out in Edmonton!
El Cortez Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar
Specializing in traditional Mexican food with a modern twist, El Cortez is one of the coolest spots in Edmonton. Located just off of Whyte Ave, El Cortez has an impressive cocktail list, with no artificial ingredients, syrups, sour mixes or juices. One of only nine establishments in the world recognized by Consejo Regulador del Tequila (Tequila Regulatory Board), El Cortez is the only place to go in Edmonton if you want to have an latin inspired night.

The Holy Roller
Walk down to the Holy Roller, just a few doors from El Cortez, for a trip back to the 30’s with an eclectic twist. With a “no concept” menu, you have a variety of choices to pick from, which are just as unique as the decor. From pad thai, to deep dish pizza, to pinxtos (an appetizer originating from Northern Spain) you’ll be taken on a culinary journey with Holy Roller’s menu. Make sure you explore the entire restaurant, as each room is decorated different from the rest. You’ll be so enthralled with the decor, you might even forget that you came for a meal!

Step in to Have Mercy and all of a sudden you’re transported to a honky tonk in Nashville. With a menu full of southern comfort food, whiskey based cocktails, and live music, Have Mercy is the real southern deal. It’s important to note that Have Mercy is not the place if you want a quiet night out or a light meal. One of their more popular dishes is fried chicken and donuts and their motto is “WHERE WE EAT GOOD FOOD, DRINK BOOZE, AND TALK LOUD!” Make sure you check out Have Mercy on social media to stay up to date on the live music performers for the night.

Cask and Barrel
Wanting to be your ‘home away from home’, Cask and Barrel succeeds with their cozy decor and home cooked meals. With an affordable menu and daily drink specials, Cask and Barrel is your go to after-work spot. With a sidewalk patio, it’s the perfect place to catch some rays and people watch downtown. Make sure you stop in on Saturday night, when they have live music playing every week at 4 pm.

Rocky Mountain Icehouse
Originating in Texas as a way to supply the town with blocks of ice, icehouses were historically a gathering place to escape the heat and enjoy a cold one with friends. Located in a 110 year old building on Jasper Ave, Rocky Mountain Icehouse brings some of that Southern charm to Edmonton. With an extensive menu full of sharable items, Rocky Mountain Icehouse is the perfect place to gather with friends after work, or to meet up at on the weekend. Make sure you give the Hushpuppies and Scooby Snacks a try, they’re some of our personal favourites!
